The main change to OneNote mobile takes effect on the Home tab in the app, Microsoft announced in a blog post. It will let users capture naturally with text, voice, ink and camera as well as remember rich note preview cards. OneNote has been downloaded from Google’s Play Store over 500 million times but it also exists in a crowded market filled with apps vying for attention among people who own devices with styluses, from iOS and Android smartphones, tablets and Windows 10/11 laptops....

Over the weekend, Micosoft said some users are now able to choose a style for the responses from Bing that are either ‘Precise’, ‘Balanced’, or ‘Creative’. As flagship laptops, you’d expect both lines to be aiming high in component selection, performance, and features. Apple usually integrates all three of those tentpoles into its new MacBook Pro releases. Microsoft, however, seems more complacent, and I think that fact is starting to hold back the Surface Laptop line. All of the precision-machined cases and blazing-fast performance here couldn’t make me ignore the distractingly large bezels, nor could anything make me forget about its comically outdated webcam....

The company has released its new Teams ‘View Switcher’ to public preview, allowing users to click from an always-available menu of different views. Located at the top left of the screen, the view switcher icon allows for quick switching between Gallery, Large gallery, Together mode, Gallery at top, Focus, and Full screen. SEE: BYOD security warning: You can’t do everything securely with just personal devices It was one of a host of new and upcoming Teams features announced at Microsoft Ignite 2021 in March....

Microsoft’s Jeff Chen in a new blogpost explains the latest latency improvements are “mainly attributed to the upgrade of the framework, which we introduced this month.” The upgrade should be visible for users of the Teams app on Windows and Mac. “The upgraded Teams framework provides technical benefits including rendering the HTML tree faster, running JavaScript and serializing arrays more efficiently,” Chen notes. Also: Salary freezes and a return to the office?...

In a blog post, Microsoft 365 product marketing manager Jon Maunder said the tool is “specially built to bring enterprise-grade endpoint security to businesses with up to 300 employees, in a solution that is easy-to-use and cost-effective.” Once the tool is available, customers will be able to buy the platform directly from Microsoft as a standalone offering costing $3 per user per month. Maunder noted that Microsoft was prompted to create the platform because of a 300% increase in ransomware attacks in the last year....

I don’t have any inside information about what Microsoft plans to highlight at the April 5 event. But I have a few guesses. First, I would assume we could see a peek of some so-far-undisclosed features coming to the Windows 11 – both later this year and around October in the all-up Windows 11 22H2 feature update. Given Microsoft’s recent focus on tweaking search in Windows 11, perhaps we’ll see more on that front....

Some 64% of Latin firms will continue to operate on a remote basis after the pandemic, according to Atlantico’s report titled Digital Transformation in Latin America. This is a change from the 9% of companies that implemented the format prior to the pandemic. Prior to the emergence of the crisis, 69% of the companies operated mostly out of physical environments, while 25% operated in a hybrid format – whereby employees split their time between the workplace and working remotely – and only 9% operated fully remotely....

“In relation to physical and information security measures, while most assessment targets reported good physical security measures, most did not meet the ADHA’s recommended standard for passwords used to access the My Health Record system,” the OAIC said. Detailed in the OAIC’s annual digital health report [PDF], the agency did note, however, that most of My Health Record’s assessment targets reported having a procedure in place for identifying and responding to My Health Record-related security and privacy risks even though there were areas for improvement in relation to recording matters relevant to security breaches....

I tested out the Naenka Runner Pro last year, and this new Runner Diver improves upon the Runner Pro with twice the amount of onboard storage, newer Bluetooth technology, longer battery life, and changes in the design that make it more comfortable for me and easier to operate. It is priced higher than the Runner Pro, but the improvements justify the higher cost. The audio quality seems a bit better than before, and I continue to be impressed by the music’s volume level underwater....

One such example was discussed in evidence to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) on Friday. “It was a nationally-known case involving a nationally-known company that [ASD director-general Rachel Noble] and I are declining to name at this point,” he said. According to Noble, the ASD first learned of the attack from media reports. “We try to reach out to the company to clarify if the media reports are true, and they don’t want to talk to us....

Revenue for the company increased 21% to AU$4.6 billion, while AU$3.6 billion of depreciation and amortisation and AU$1.6 billion in finance costs saw NBN walk away from fiscal 2021 with a net AU$3.8 billion loss, an improvement of 27% on last year. During the year, the company responsible for the National Broadband Network said it added 933,000 connections to its network, while once again, residential average revenue per user remained stuck at AU$45....

In addition to improving ONTAP, the company is transforming FlexPod – its joint offering with Cisco – from a traditional infrastructure stack to a fully-automated, as-a-service offering that’s highly connected to cloud environments. NetApp is also partnering with Equinix to integrate the colocation giant’s services into the NetApp Keystone subscription service. Additionally, NetApp is expanding the number of managed services that work across both on-premise and cloud environments. All told, the updates enable customers to connect their on-premise operations to multiple clouds with a simplified, unified management experience....

First announced last year, the National Cyber Force (NCF) is a joint venture by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and intelligence service GCHQ and brings together intelligence, cyber and security personnel from the MoD and GCHQ, along with staff from secret intelligence service MI6 and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). It’s the first time staff from each body will be united under one unified command. The NCF’s new permanent site in Samlesbury, just outside Preston – and already home to a BAE Systems military aircraft factory – puts it just a short journey from GCHQ’s Manchester office....

The company expects the separation will increase tower tenancy and lower costs as it expands coverage across Aotearoa. TowerCo will have around 1,500 sites transferred to it, of which 70% are towers and the remaining 30% are split evenly between assets mounted on buildings and light poles. Spark said 53% of the sites are urban, while 15% are regional, and 32% are classified as rural. “We can see globally that shared ownership models are an effective way of improving returns from infrastructure assets that are not critical to competitive advantage....

“That’s a remarkable kind of feat, and we do that through working collectively across the New South Wales public sector and having a rigorous focus on outcomes,” said Maiden, whose primary role is to oversee the policy function of the state government’s AU$2.1 billion Digital Restart Fund. With 200 terabytes of RAM and a network with 100 gigabits per second, the processing capacity of the Dragão supercomputer is “equivalent to 4 million smartphones or one thousand modern laptops”, according to the company. It added that the new equipment surpasses Atlas and Fenix, previously the largest supercomputers in the region, which also belong to Petrobras. The new equipment is expected further to increase the performance of geophysical data processing at Petrobras, while reducing geological and operational risks....

This survey, conducted with Linux Foundation Research, Scott Logic, Wipro, and GitHub, found that despite open-source financial services adoption being widespread, there’s much more left to be done. That’s because many financial firms don’t fundamentally understand open source’s role in their business and governance strategy. When asked about whether organizations were “open source first” in the survey, 75% said “no” or “they didn’t know.” Only 8% of respondents in this study have policies that always encourage open source contribution, compared to 36% in other industry sectors....
