HSE was hit with Conti ransomware in May, significantly impacting frontline health services. The attackers initially demanded a ransom of $20 million in bitcoin for the decryption key to restore the network. While the gang eventually handed over a decryption key without receiving a ransom, they still published stolen patient data – a common technique by ransomware attackers, designed to pressure victims into paying. “We’ve seen twice as many [ransomware] attacks this year as last year in the UK – but the reason it is proliferating is because it works,” Fleming told the US Cipher Brief threat conference. “It just pays. From 1 February 2022, a ‘right to disconnect’ will be introduced in Belgium that will effectively ban civil services bosses from contacting employees when they are not at work, apart from in emergency or otherwise ’exceptional’ circumstances. According to Belgian newspaper De Morgen, the new rules were set out in a letter to civil servants by Petra De Sutter, Minister of Civil Service for Belgium’s Green Party. In the letter, De Sutter said greater protections were needed to safeguard employees from excessive stress and burnout, adding that allowing employees to fully disconnect from work was “linked to positive well-being outcomes such as better focus, better recuperation and a more sustainable energy level....

The APT has been active since at least 2019 and appears to focus on targets of value in cyberespionage. Last year, Cyware said that SideCopy was involved in a number of attacks, including those targeting Indian defense forces and military personnel. On Wednesday, researchers from Cisco Talos said a recent surge in activity “signals a boost” in the APT’s development of techniques, tactics, and tools, with multiple, new remote access trojans (RATs) and plugins now in play....

The EU-Singapore Digital Partnership provides an “overarching framework for all areas of bilateral digital cooperation” between the two partners, according to a joint statement released Wednesday by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Communications and Information, and Infocomm Media DevelopmentAuthority. The agreement also will encompass efforts to drive digital upskilling for workers as well as digital transformation of businesses and public services. With the formalisation of the partnership, both sides on Wednesday also signed the EU-Singapore Digital Trade Principles, which paves the way towards a legally binding digital trade agreement between Singapore and the EU....

The global trade pact is the fourth Singapore has established, following similar agreements with Chile and New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, to accelerate collaboration in the digital digital economy and improve digital connectivity. Under their agreement, South Korea and Singapore will establish digital trade rules and norms that promote interoperability between digital systems. These aim to enable more seamless cross-border data flows and build a trusted and secure digital environment for businesses and consumers in both countries....

Singapore Police Force (SPF) said these phishing ads would pop up on Google when users searched for a bank’s contact number with the intention of seeking advice for various reasons. These ads would show up amongst the first few search results and contain fake contact details for the bank, the police said in its advisory note released Wednesday. Unwitting victims who called these numbers would speak with someone impersonating as a bank employee, who then would proceed to alert them of issues with their bank account, credit or debit cards, or loans....
