China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center (CVERC) on Tuesday said “41 types of cyber weapons” were tapped by NSA’s hacking unit, Tailored Access Operations (TAO), in the cyber attacks targeting China’s Northwestern Polytechnical University. Located in the Chinese city of Xi’an, the university describes itself as a research-focused institution with disciplines in aeronautics, astronautics, and marine technology engineering. It is affiliated with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology....

OnSpecta, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Redwood City, Calif, has already collaborated with Ampere. The OnSpecta Deep Learning Software (DLS) has proven to accelerate Ampere-based instances running popular AI-inference workloads by 4x. Last year, Ampere started shipping its Altra processor, an Arm-based server chip for cloud computing and hyperscale data centers. Called the Cisco-NUS Accelerated Digital Economy Corporate Laboratory, the research facility is located at the university’s Kent Ridge campus and is supported by National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF), according to a joint statement released Friday. The lab would employ more than 100 researchers, analysts, engineers, and students, and work on 15 research projects.
