Enterprise demand for new digital services, such as cloud computing, big data, and data centres were the biggest drivers that fuelled the Chinese telecom market, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Revenue from these digital services grew 27.8% and accounted for 44.5% of the industry’s overall revenue growth, the ministry said. It added that the 8% year-on-year growth was higher than the 4.1% growth rate clocked in 2020....

Tom Kellermann, VMware’s head of cybersecurity strategy, said the Log4j vulnerability is one of the worst vulnerabilities he has seen in his career – and one of the most significant vulnerabilities ever exposed. Log4j, a Java library for logging error messages in applications, was developed by the Apache Software Foundation. Kellermann called Apache “one of the giant supports of the bridge between the world’s applications and compute environments,” adding that the exploitation of Log4j will “destabilize that support and… destabilize the digital infrastructure that’s been built on top of it....

On Thursday, financial services and credit rating provider Moody’s published new research, including a survey of financial services, enterprise firms, infrastructure providers, public sector organizations, and government entities. Out of roughly 5,000 issuers asked to complete the survey, conducted between April 2020 and April 2021, 1,300 responded. According to the researchers, many organizations involved in the market today – including global debt issuers – are increasing their investments in cybersecurity, but their “preparedness levels and defensive capabilities vary widely....

A survey of 300 senior leaders in the UK comprising CEOs, CFOs, CTOs and CIOs at SMEs and large organizations by recruiter Robert Half found that 34% plan to up their headcount next year, driven by the ongoing shift to digital and “online-first” business models. Two in five (41%) tech leaders said changing behaviors had inspired business confidence, which in turn is prompting hiring activity, the research found. However, 56% of respondents said they expected finding qualified candidates to be a greater challenge compared to the pre-pandemic jobs market....
