The company’s Level 5 Control Tower guides vehicles autonomously through a proprietary mesh network of computers without having to place any sensors on an individual vehicle....

The legal fight was caused by Facebook’s use of cookies and a proprietary browser plug-in in 2010 and 2011 to track users after they had completely logged off the social network. Although users had to agree to being tracked while they were logged into Facebook, that tracking was supposed to end upon logout, according to the end-user licensing agreement. The Money app marks the first product from Afterpay’s partnership with Westpac, which co-founder and CEO Anthony Eisen said would allow his company to leverage banking infrastructure without recreating it, which is a condition for standing up a neobank in Australia. To use the Money app, customers must have an existing Afterpay BNPL account. Afterpay said within minutes of opening an account, customers can make it their primary “money management app”....

The 2021 Unisys Security Index reveals that two-thirds of Brazilians working remotely stated they are primarily responsible for keeping their employers’ data secure. Of the respondents who believe they are primarily responsible for the integrity of corporate data, 41% also place that responsibility on application providers. Only 21% of those polled hold their employers accountable for data security. The results suggest that most Brazilians have a high degree of responsibility in relation to the corporate data they work with, according to Alexis Aguirre, director at Unisys Cybersecurity for Latin America....

Open banking – a practice that allows third party financial services firms to access consumer banking, transactional and other data from through, and other data with their consent through application programming interfaces (APIs) – is being introduced in Brazil through a phased approach. According to the research by NPS Prism carried out by consulting firm Bain & Company on open banking in the insurance sector, 59% of consumers in Brazil are not planning to share their data with financial services companies....

Making a VR simulator for Mars exploration is a top priority for NASA, which is under presidential orders to land a human on Mars by 2023. The clock’s ticking, and NASA is teaming up with Epic Games and Buendea, a group solving real-time extended reality (XR) graphics simulation challenges, on a public competition hosted on crowdsourcing platform HeroX. The goal is to create contributions toward a VR testbed environment that replicates the experiences an astronaut may encounter on Mars....

To that end, it’s only fitting that the Naval Postgraduate School and the Office of Naval Research are joining forces again with Open Robotics, which oversees the open-source Robotic Operating System and the Gazebo robotics simulator, as well as Robonation, a STEM organization, to organize a simulated maritime competition in 2022. According to the organizers, the main goal of the Virtual RobotX (VRX) competition is to provide a simulation framework to support maritime autonomy development....

The fund, first announced in September 2020, is designed to provide fibre and digital capability upgrades in regional and rural Australia. Government agencies at the federal, state, territory, and local levels have all been invited to submit proposals to take part in the funding round.
